Our Programs

Scholarship & Mentorship

AMP believes that all children should be provided access to arts education.  We provide need-based scholarships to 2-17-year-old youth whose families face financial hardships.

Regardless of socio-economic background or zip code, dance is a passion that can never be taken away from a child. The music lives in their heart, and the movement vibrates in every muscle. Unlike many activities, there is no equipment necessary—this is one reason why dance is such a universal form of expression. With the arts offerings shrinking at local public schools, the Scholarship Mentor Program enables students to work on creative projects that provide a positive focus and outlet. With many students training until they graduate from high school, we have a rare opportunity to provide students with skills, support, and a path for their future.

We work closely with local non-profits to bring the gift of dance to our community’s most vulnerable populations. Our partnerships help ensure that children find healing through dance.

Plus, by collaborating with local dance studios and organizations like Teen Dance Star, AMP awards scholarships to students who train from Carpinteria to Santa Ynez. Since its founding, AMP has awarded need-based scholarships to over 2,500 youth for over 150,000 classes to local youth since 2004!!

Scholarship recipients receive a personal mentor who meets with the dancer and their family to assess goals and help address challenges. The mentor is a constant and a bridge between dancer and teacher, ensuring the experience is meaningful and impactful. Our mentors are qualified professionals, studio owners, and dance educators.

“Watching these children dance, you see an increase in confidence and worthiness. It is overwhelming to witness. Students with significant life stressors learned patiently about themselves and what they are capable of.”

Co-Founder and Mentor Emeritus

Rent Subsidy

Santa Barbara’s entire culture is built around a deep appreciation for the Arts. From Solstice to Fiesta, to a myriad of festivals, events, theatre, and concert dance, the performing arts are everywhere. The AMP Rent Subsidy Program plays a vital role in supporting the artists that make all of these incredible events possible by providing 40 hours per week of subsidized studio space. Each year we serve over 200 performing artists and thousands of their constituents.

Potential renters should fill out our Rental Request Form as well as a Rent Subsidy Application online via the links provided below. The forms will then be reviewed by the Rent Subsidy Committee. Once the committee sets the rate, the Rental Manager will set up a contract and an agreement with the artist.
